So when I asked them the reason for their interest in the IAS, the kids were not very sure. One of the children said that she is more interested in the news and she is aware of the huge competition.
But other than that, she did not have much information, so I am not sure why she wants to join the IAS.In the case of the other child, it’s the father who has been telling the child about the IAS exams, and she was ready to go for it.
But do you really need to start preparing so early for the IAS exams; after all, they have just passed their 10th board exam?
Most IAS aspirants start their preparation after finishing their graduation (when they are around 21 or 22 years). Some aspirants get inspired later in life to join the civil service and start preparing a few years later.
If one is really serious about the UPSC, one can even start preparing after 12th, but anything before that is not really recommended.
The UPSC exam has three stages — prelims, mains and the interview.
Cracking the UPSC exam is not just about scoring high marks in the written exam, because the last stage in the UPSC exam is the personality test round which assesses your suitability for a career in the services.
So, besides academic knowledge, an aspirant needs to have all-round development.
And, in academics, your focus should be more on acquiring insight about the latest happenings/issues/current affairs within India and beyond.
