Top International Schools in Mumbai (Cambridge and the IB curriculum). Preparing minds for a challenging world.
Until a few years back, most schools in India focused on traditional teaching methods and didn’t incorporate technology as study aids. However, the scenario is much different today and some of the schools in India today match international standards (it reflects in their fees as well).

International schools, though expensive, offer world-class infrastructure, provide an immersive learning experience, and grooms the child in an international environment.
Today, due to changing aspirations of parents as well as children, there are several International schools in Mumbai (including IGCSE). Also, because more and more parents are opting for International boards, there’s a growing trend of schools switching over to international curriculum.
More Mumbai parents looking for International-grade schools for their kids
There’s a substantial increase in the number of Mumbai students who are opting for International-grade schools.
- IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is the international board for classes IX and X. It’s the world’s most popular international qualification run by Cambridge International Examinations.
- International Baccalaureate diploma (IB) is a pre-university course for students of classes XI and XII. Generally, the trend, teachers say, is that the students who choose IGCSE and IB go abroad for further studies.
Here are the top reasons why parents are opting for these boards for their children.
- Parents choose IB for their kids primarily because it’s an application-based board; international boards believe in learning the concepts as a whole and not rote learning
- Its accepted internationally.
- The objective is to teach students real-life concepts, which will encourage them to think laterally and improve their problem-solving skills.
- These schools provide teacher-support websites with an exhaustive collection of teaching resources.
- The teachers of IGCSE are given special training, both online and face-to-face. Teachers are also trained through online workshops
But the race to go overseas for completing or pursuing higher education is changing. Several IB students now prefer to stay back in India.
Students who study the Cambridge International Programme are prepared to study at universities overseas and in India. Cambridge conducts its evaluation series in June, the results of which are released in August, which is too late for admissions into Indian colleges.
But this academic year, a March series has been introduced. This will ensure that Indian students receive their results in time for college and university admissions.
Meanwhile, the June and November exam series will still continue, which means students will have an option on which series to appear for.
Students of IGCSE have to select seven subjects from a choice of over 70. This flexibility makes it different from other Indian boards, in which the five subjects to be studied are decided by the board and not the students. Students are encouraged to choose subjects such as visual arts, global perspectives and theatre.
The structure of the IGCSE textbooks and the construction of its syllabus are also done systematically. IGCSE offers extra learning — what students learn in classes XI and XII in other boards is learnt by them in classes IX and X in IGCSE. But unlike CBSE, IGCSE doesn’t allot a set of marks to co-curricular activities.
