A couple of years back (2015), France had announced plans to attract more Indian students to its institutes. Two years down the line, it seems all set to surpass its target of drawing 10,000 Indian students by 2020. The figure has already touched 7,000, claim industry experts.
The government has backed its commitment with two major steps.

France is making it easier for Indian students, who want to pursue higher education abroad, to get visa. This development comes at a time when UK is considering a hefty visa cash bond for Indian students.
With several India-specific measures, including easing of visa norms, it’s expected that more Indian students will chose to study in France.
There are also talks of creating a “France-India” network as well as an increased number of scholarships offered by the French Embassy and its corporate partners. The French Embassy, along with its corporate partners, will also award scholarships amounting to Rs 7.1 crore to 235 meritorious Indian students who wish to pursue their higher education in France.
The aim of the “France-India job opportunities” network is to promote better job opportunities to Indian students who have pursued higher education in France. This network would include HR heads of major French companies in India and major Indian ones working in partnership with French companies.
So if you’re an Indian citizen who has graduated from a French higher education institution (Master or PhD levels), subsequently whenever you apply for a tourist or business visa for a trip to France, you’ll be given a visa with a long period of validity – up to five years.
And to reduce the language barrier, over 700 courses are now taught in English, so students have lots of options to choose from.
As of now, these measures are applicable only to Indian students. The number of Indian students opting for higher education in France has grown 50 per cent over the past five years, so there definitely seems to be an attempt to attract even more Indian students.
