As the festival season kicks off, school kids are learning how to celebrate different festivals responsibly – a trend with various city schools.
The little ones are taught about Navratri and nine different ‘intelligences’ (abilities) of human beings – creativity, mathematical, musical, spiritual.
Most schools now have a social theme woven into lessons during festivities. kids are being taught about reducing noise pollution, about caring for the environment, making clay Ganeshas, celebrating Diwali sans firecrackers, using artificial rangoli colours, etc.
So while they enjoy festivals, kids are also taught not to disturb or hurt others.
“We’re creating a generation of responsible citizens, who will not waste resources or pollute the environment by celebrating festivals recklessly,” says director of Children’s Movement of Civic Awareness, a initiative for students.
